HB 972 on the way to the Governors

HB 972 Passed both the House of Representatives and the Senate

Monday April 4th the House of Representatives HB 972 (substitute) passed unanimously at 11:55 PM just 5 minutes before the end of the session for the year.  Because House Bill 972 was changed in the Senate, the legislation had to go back to the House of Representatives for a final vote.

Special thank you to our sponsor Representative Chairman Belton, for his tenacity, Rep Chairman Alan Powell, Representatives Matt Gambill,J. Collins, Mack Jackson, and Patty Bentley, plus Senator Matt Brass and Senator Lester Jackson and so many more that helped get this legislation over the finish line after 27 different revisions had to be made.

On to the governor for his signature, to become law July 1st of 2022

The Professional Compact licensure legislation now has 7 States, with only 3 more to go before our compact is active. With the passage of house bill 972 Georgia will have a seat at the national conference. That's why HB 972 was so important as the legislation to update licensure law from the 1980s.

Rep Chairman Belton also sponsored our newest legislation to remove all the expired sections, HB 1616.

We will continue to update the law as one of the 27 revisions forced us to put back all the expired 1996 sections.   HB 1616 will provide the opportunity to continue to remove expired sections and work with other disciplines in completing the cleanup of the licensure law.
